Malampaya: ‘no harm to people, community, environment’

MANILA  -Tycoon Enrique Razon Jr.’s Prime Energy Resources Development BV maintained that its operations at the Malampaya gas field had “no harm to people, the community or the environment” after the facility in offshore northwest Palawan province achieved more than two decades of “Goal Zero” last month.

The Goal Zero milestone indicates that operations in the country’s lone indigenous gas field had no significant safety incidents.

“It underscores not only our dedication to these principles but also our responsibilities as an energy provider, assuring our stakeholders of our utmost commitment to excellence in all we do,” Donnabel Cruz, Prime Energy managing director and general manager, said in a statement this week.

According to Prime Energy, it had been reinforcing “safety culture” among its staff and contractors to ensure that safety incidents were reviewed.

The company added that it had completed the scheduled two-week maintenance shutdown of Malampaya in February this year “on time and with zero recorded incidents.”

Prime Energy is among the operators of the Malampaya gas field, which supplies a fifth of the country’s power needs through First Gen Corp.’s gas-fired power plants in Batangas province.
