There is a super cool event today happening at Dusit Thani Hotel that will support our farmers. It is called Box-All-You-Can and the idea—in a nutshell—is to get all the fruits and vegetables that you can within 10 minutes and all the proceeds will go to farmers.
This is in celebration of the World Food Day, which will be tomorrow, Oct. 16. World Food Day has taken place annually since 1979 to promote awareness on hunger and stir action for the future of food, people and the planet.
Dusit properties worldwide are participating in this initiative. For Dusit Thani Manila, they are partnering with Rural Rising PH, a social enterprise “dedicated to harnessing the potential of the countryside and fostering rural prosperity through agri-entrepreneurship” (see shop.ruralrisingph.com). They do something they call a “rescue buy,” where they procure all of the farmers’ produce to prevent these from going to waste
But today at Dusit it will be extra fun as they are taking this initiative a step higher with the concept of “Box All You Can.” The concept is that you can fill a big box “with anything and everything you like, no weight limit.” This would ordinarily cost P2,500 but for this game, you will only pay P799 for everything you can load in that box!
Win-win
The idea is to create a win-win for both farmers and consumers or as they have coined it: “Saving the farmers, savings for the consumers.”
Here are the mechanics:
- A shopper shall be given one box per booked slot.
- Each shopper is given 10 minutes to box fresh produce.
- At the signal, shoppers will be allowed in the Box-All-You-Can Area in groups of 10 to 15.
- Produce must fit within the dimensions of the box.
- Shoppers are not allowed to tear off the leaves and stalks of produce.
- When the time is up, shoppers must proceed to the checkout table.
- Shoppers should be able to push the loaded box through a metal frame installed on top of the checkout table.

What a fun way to help our farmers! The best thing about this is that it’s fun for a cause: you will be helping distressed farmers in Luzon.
You can load as much as 20 kilos per box and all the income will go to the farmers. The produce will include watermelon, lemons, radish, corn, cucumbers, pineapples, bananas and kamote, among other fruits and vegetables.
The game will be held at the Garden Area of Dusit Thani Manila from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. only.
Alternatively, if you want to help more people, you can also donate boxes to street dwellers, hungry communities and community pantries!
What a wonderful way to spend Sunday!
I hope you can join and may this day be a grace-filled one for you … and for Filipino farmers! INQ
