MANILA -Petron Corp. has expanded the distribution of its 170-gram refillable gas cylinders in six Luzon provinces in a bid to lessen consumers’ dependence on charcoal and firewood, and prevent illegal refilling of butane canisters for cooking.
In a statement on Friday, Petron said the Fiesta Gas cylinders were now available in Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan, Zambales, Nueva Ecija and Ilocos Norte.
“The product is fit for everyday use and provides a more convenient and budget-friendly option for families who can’t easily afford to buy cooking gas in large quantities,” Petron said.
These can be returned to authorized Fiesta Gas dealers and retailers for refills.
To accommodate the projected increase in demand for the cylinders, which are about the same size as small insecticide containers, Petron is set to upgrade one of its liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) refilling plants in Luzon with machines for small refillable containers.
These cylinders were first launched in the Visayas in 2022 before distribution was expanded to Metro Manila in June this year.
According to Petron, the cylinders have an aluminum alloy that can withstand high pressure and are likewise compatible with LPG-rated portable stoves and grillers usually used for cooking meat.
Under Republic Act No. 11592, or the LPG Industry Regulation Act, LPG cylinders may only be refilled if these complied with Philippine National Standards. INQ
