MANILA  -For accelerating the globalization of Jollibee and transforming it into one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing restaurant chains, Jollibee Foods Corp. (JFC) chief executive officer Ernesto Tanmantiong was selected by the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) as its Management Man of the Year awardee for 2023.

Tanmantiong is the 47th individual to receive the distinction considered the highest management excellence award in the country.

The award recognizes individuals in the private and public sector for their integrity, leadership, and management qualities, as well as contribution to nation-building and values formation.

The influential business management group noted Tanmantiong’s efforts in steering JFC’s recovery from the pandemic, noting the company’s “impressive and quick” turnaround after suffering its first loss at the height of the health crisis.

The MAP also highlighted Tanmantiong’s leadership role at the JFC, and the company’s substantial contributions on job generation, income generation and national development.

MAP said that JFC raised the Philippine flag with pride in many countries around the globe in the spirit of national pride and as a testament that Filipino companies can compete successfully alongside big, global brands.

Further, the MAP lauded Tanmantiong for consistently espousing inclusive growth by providing opportunities to small and medium enterprises through JFC’s franchise program, and for uplifting Filipino farmers to become entrepreneurs by tapping them as accredited suppliers.

Moreover, the business organization noted his contributions toward driving the company to help solve social issues such as malnutrition through JFC’s nationwide school-feeding program, as well as the company’s agro-entrepreneurship, technical-vocational education and disaster response programs.

Tanmantiong was also cited for consistently pursuing sustainable practices at JFC, with initiatives such as hiring seniors and persons with disability and implementing reusable dining wares and paper packaging.

The award makes Tanmantiong and his brother, JFC founder and chair Tony Tan Caktiong, the second brother tandem to earn the prestigious award. Tan Caktiong received the same award in 2002. INQ
