MANILA -Aboitiz Power Corp.’s renewable energy unit has partnered with Vivant Energy Corp. and Singapore-based Vena Energy to develop a 206-megawatt (MW) wind project in Northern Samar province.
In a stock exchange disclosure on Wednesday, AboitizPower said Aboitiz Renewables Inc. (ARI) signed a joint venture agreement with the two companies to form Lihangin Wind Energy Corp.
Construction for the project is expected to begin in the latter part of the year.
“This project is a significant boost to AboitizPower’s wind energy portfolio, contributing to a well-managed and just energy transition. We are eager to complete this project to help address the energy needs of the country,” said Emmanuel Rubio, AboitizPower president and chief executive.

The company did not disclose the amount of investment needed for the joint venture and noted that this was still “being determined by the parties.”
Commercial operations for the wind project in the municipality of San Isidro are set to begin in the first quarter of 2025.
ARI currently has around 1,000 MW of renewable energy projects in the pipeline composed of wind, solar and geothermal facilities.
The company aims to expand its clean energy portfolio to 4,600 MW from the current 1,000 MW by 2030.
In August, ARI also signed a joint venture agreement with Vena for the development of a 102-MW wind project spanning the provinces of Rizal and Laguna.
This is likewise expected to begin commercial operations in 2025.
Vena, an independent power producer based in Singapore, earlier announced plans to expand its renewable energy capacity in the Philippines by 300 MW to 500 MW in the next three to five years.
