Fernando Zobel back as chair of AC Health

MANILA  -Fernando Zobel de Ayala has returned as chair of Ayala Corp.’s health-care unit, AC Health, more than a year since he went on medical leave and resigned from all positions within the conglomerate.

Ayala said this was part of Zobel’s “phased return to senior positions of governance in the Ayala Group.”

On Monday, he was elected chair by AC Health’s board of directors. He was a key figure in establishing the health-care group and previously served as its chair from November 2016 until September last year.

“As chairman, Zobel supported AC Health’s acquisition of Healthway Philippines and a majority stake into QualiMed Health Network, which are now integrated as one group under the Healthway Medical Network brand,” Ayala said in the statement.

“Zobel also supported AC Health’s partnership with Siemens, Varian and CTSI for the construction and design of the country’s first dedicated cancer specialty hospital, the Healthway Cancer Care Hospital in Arca South, Taguig City,” it added.

Despite being on medical leave, Zobel remained active behind the scenes, especially within the health-care arm.

Last March, he led the inspection of the company’s 100-bed Healthway Cancer Care Hospital in Taguig City.

On Monday, Zobel joined another inspection of the nearly finished facility with Ayala chair Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala and AC Health president and CEO Paolo Borromeo.

“I am very happy to see that the first dedicated cancer specialty hospital in the country is very near completion,” Zobel said in the statement. INQ
