Sunway Medical Center (SMC) is Malaysia’s largest quaternary and regional tertiary care private hospital that is strategically located in the integrated sustainable township of Sunway City Kuala Lumpur. Established in November 1999, Sunway Medical Center is the first hospital in Southeast Asia to receive accreditation from the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS). Awarded by the Frost & Sullivan 2021 and 2022 Malaysia Smart Hospital Company of the Year Award, SMC has been at the forefront in adopting the latest technologies to achieve clinical excellence. SMC has also officially acquired the Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (PET/CT) digital system, uMI780. This makes SMC the first hospital in Southeast Asia to have this technology. Meanwhile, SMC is collaborating with United Imaging Healthcare (UIH) in presenting uMI780. Through this technology, SMC optimises molecular imaging protocols using artificial intelligence (AI) model reconstruction in cancer diagnosis.

In 2021, Sunway Medical Centre acquired an additional state-of-the-art robotic surgery system and made history by performing Malaysia’s first robot-assisted joint replacement surgery. SMC is the first robotic joint replacement surgery pioneer in Malaysia, celebrating the record of 100th robotic arthroplasty surgery with the clinical outcome of faster recovery, less pain and 80% of patients being able to walk without crutches during day 14 of follow-up as compared to 20% of patients that underwent conventional surgery.

In Dec 2022, Sunway Medical Centre commemorated the administration of one thousand robot-assisted surgeries. This milestone achievement comes as another step in the hospital’s diligent investment into the latest smart hospital technology to improve patient care and precision medicine. Sunway Medical Centre procured the highly advanced da Vinci Si Surgical System in 2016 and their latest addition, the da Vinci Xi 4th Generation Surgical System was the first of its kind in the country when it was launched in January 2022. With its advanced surgical technology, the da Vinci Xi makes complex surgeries simpler and enhances surgical performance, allowing SMC’s surgeons to have an extended range of motion and substantially improved vision while operating. 

Additionally, SMC’s Cancer Centre is equipped with various cutting-edge technologies for precise and intelligent cancer diagnoses and treatment, such as Radixact-X9 Tomotherapy, Leksell Gamma Knife ICON, TrueBeam STx variant, 4-D PET/CT Scanner and the Intraoperative Radiation Therapy (IORT).  Sunway Medical Centre is affiliated with University of Cambridge, Royal College of Physicians, Royal Papworth Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine & Health Sciences, Monash University Malaysia to further meet the demands of medical education, training and research.
