MPTC unit targets to complete CCLEx Guadalupe ramp in 2026

MANILA  -A unit of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) is eyeing to open in three years a P1-billion ramp project connecting Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) and Guadalupe City.

Allan Alfon, president and general manager of CCLEX Corp. (CCLEC), told the Inquirer they were currently conducting a parcellary survey, which includes the process of identifying lots that could be affected by the right-of-way.

“[The] target to complete the project is 2026,” he said, but that construction has yet to start since it would depend on “the relocation of the informal settlers.” Groundbreaking ceremony was held in November last year.

The 2-kilometer (km) infrastructure project would allow an additional 10,000 to 12,000 vehicles to use the toll road per day. This meant almost double the current capacity of 12,500, which Alfon said translated to P1 million to P1.4 million in gross revenues from toll collection per day. Majority of users are Class 1 vehicles, including vans, cars and pickups.

The P33-billion CCLEX, Cebu’s third bridge built to ease traffic in the area, was inaugurated in April last year. Civil works began on July 5, 2018.

The toll bridge connects mainland Cebu from Cebu City to Cordova town in Mactan Island. It has a design speed of 60 km to 80 km per hour and a navigational clearance of 52 meters, allowing shipping traffic below.

MPTC is projecting a 20-percent growth in traffic volume and revenues this year as more expressways open amid an increase in mobility.

In August, the Caloocan-España segment of the NLEx-SLEx Connector started its toll fee collection. The España-Sta. Mesa segment of the 8-km connector road is expected to operate by the fourth quarter of this year.

The Silang East-Aguinaldo interchange of the 44.57-km Cavite-Laguna Expressway, meanwhile, is set to welcome motorists by September.

Recently, the toll road arm of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. inked a memorandum of agreement with San Miguel Corp. to design, build and operate the 88-km Cavite-Batangas Expressway and Nasugbu-Bauan Expressway.
