For cumbersome memos, Sy-led Chinabank creates own ChatGPT

MANILA  -The Sy family’s China Banking Corp., one of the country’s biggest lenders, is turning to artificial intelligence to improve workflow and do tasks such as writing internal company memos and emails.

Similar to ChatGPT, CHIB GPT is the bank’s first generative AI solution and its rollout was timed to mark Chinabank’s 103rd anniversary. “CHIB GPT for employees is just the beginning,” Chinabank president and CEO Romeo D. Uyan Jr. said in a statement on Thursday.

“Chinabankers can use CHIB GPT as an on-demand companion to help boost productivity and efficiency,” he added.

CHIB GPT specializes in content generation, search, summary and analysis.  It can also make language-related tasks like writing reports, emails, memos, articles and other content faster and easier.The program was also designed to provide insights to management.

For example, it can offer helpful tips and suggestions for time management, workflow optimization, personal training, decision-making, understanding complex topics and even overcoming writer’s block.

The technology is powered by a large language model on a secured system since it uses the bank’s proprietary information. Because it is a learning program, more Chinabank-exclusive data can be added into CHIB GPT’s system over time.

Chinabank said it planned to introduce other generative AI initiatives across the bank. It also said it would raise awareness on AI’s proper use. “With all conversations kept internal and confidential, Chinabankers are encouraged to utilize CHIB GPT with the ethical guidelines for use of [generative] AI in place,” the bank said.
