COUNTERFLOW LANES SOON TO BE ACTIVATED

Manila-Cavitex link set to be completed in Q1 of 2024

MANILA  -An extension road connecting Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway (Cavitex) to Sucat Road, a portion of the 7.7-kilometer (km) Cavitex C5 Link project, is expected to be completed by the first quarter of next year as the Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) ramps up construction.

In a statement on Friday, MPTC unit Cavitex Infrastructure Corp. (CIC) said it would be doing girder launching activity for the 1.9-km segment near the Cavitex Parañaque toll plaza this month.

Counterflow lanes would be activated to alleviate potential traffic congestion during the activity, CIC said.

CIC president and general manager Raul Ignacio said this toll road “once completed by the first quarter of 2024 will help cut travel time to Sucat Road from Cavitex (Coastal Road) and vice versa by 10 minutes, making daily commutes more efficient and seamless for our motorists.”

In March, CIC said it had tapped China Road and Bridge Corp. (CRBC) to work on this toll road segment.

CRBC has experience in construction of infrastructure projects, such as roads, bridges, ports, tunnels, railways, dredging and airports. It was involved in the building of Central Luzon Link Expressway Phase 1 Package 2, Estrella-Pantaleon bridge and Binondo-Intramuros bridge.

The Taguig-Merville portion of the Cavitex C5 Link project is now operational. The road linking Merville to Sucat, meanwhile, is under development.

The entire toll road project is designed to service 50,000 vehicles per day. It seeks to cut travel time for motorists going from Makati and Taguig to Parañaque, Las Piñas and Cavite.

Apart from Cavitex, MPTC’s portfolio also includes the Cavite-Laguna Expressway, North Luzon Expressway (NLEx), Subic-Clark Tarlac Expressway, NLEx Connector Road and Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway.
