MANILA -The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) on Thursday said it has signed an agreement with the provincial government of Tarlac to develop a 47-hectare property inside the New Clark City into a new technology hub.
The BCDA said the memorandum of agreement (MOA) was signed last Aug 11 by BCDA president and CEO Joshua Bingcang and Tarlac Governor Susan Yap.
“We are grateful that through the efforts of the provincial government of Tarlac, we are realizing our dream of developing New Clark City as the Philippines’ model for future smart cities. This milestone is a product of years of hard work by the government and the private sector to bring in investments in the fields of ICT, big data, and R&D, among others,” Bingcang said in a statement.
For her part, Yap said the partnership will bring in more investments and open up employment opportunities for people from the province.
“Rest assured that the provincial government of Tarlac will be here, hand in hand, to support the dreams and aspirations of the BCDA for this next frontier of development,” she said.
Under the MOA, the BCDA grants usufructuary rights to the provincial government of Tarlac for the use of the said property.
The state-owned agency, which transforms former military bases into economic hubs, also said that the land will be used particularly in establishing, developing and institutionalizing a hub for agro-industry, research and development, logistics and other complex technological facilities like hyperscale data centers.
