Business school is a highly competitive environment and the climb to the top starts even before you get on campus so you need every tool and help you can get to be on track

It’s been seven years since the implementation of the 12-year basic education program that included Senior High School, two years of specialized upper secondary education, where students may choose a specialization based on aptitude, interests, and school capacity.

In academic year 2019-2020, over 11 percent of 3.2 million Filipino students enrolled in the Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) strand under the K-12 Senior High School Academic track, according to the Department of Education’s data.

ABM remains to be one of the most sought-after strands given the lucrative nature of affiliated jobs after college. Not to mention, business-related courses generally offer a plethora of skills applicable to a wide range of professions and are desirable for high-ranking leadership positions. Some even go as far as taking post-graduate business courses in some of the most prestigious business schools in the world to beef up their resumes.

This is why it’s no surprise that as early as Senior High School, competition is already tough among students looking to get a good start—and rightfully so when there are hundreds of thousands of other equally eager students out there.

It all starts with choosing the right school

While many local educational institutions have retooled their curriculum to cater to the specific needs of SHS students, particularly in the ABM strand, few offer holistic and strategic learning opportunities that go above and beyond. Some colleges and universities, for example, only offer the basics without equipping their graduates with the experience and knowledge required to give them an edge not just over their Filipino peers but internationally. Because let’s face it: It’s an even bigger jungle out there to stand out among business graduates from other countries.

This is why the top-ranked Philippine higher education institution Mapúa University, through its Enrique T. Yuchengco School of Business (ETYSB), has partnered with United States of America’s most innovative university, according to the U.S. News & World Report, the Arizona State University (ASU), to offer world-class business education to Filipino students.

This means ABM students don’t need to even enroll abroad to have first-hand experience with top-tier university business courses.

The future of competitive higher business education

The collaboration between Mapúa (top four Philippine university in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023) and ASU (among the top 1 percent of universities worldwide ranked by the Center for World University Ranking 2022-2023) will also introduce an array of business programs based on up and coming industries. These include global management, financial technology, business intelligence and analytics, real estate management, and digital marketing.

Every tool in ASU’s acclaimed business program—one of the largest business schools in the US—is made accessible to Filipino students through Mapúa-ETYSB and ASU’s holistic learning strategies.

Students can keep up with the rest of the world through Mapúa and ASU’s global immersion efforts, which include access to ASU’s more than 185 courses and resources from ASU-Cintana Alliance universities taught through blended modality and interactive synchronous sessions by ASU faculty. Filipino students may also sign up for annual short-term immersion and exchange programs within the ASU system.

Learning doesn’t start and end inside the classroom, so the two acclaimed universities also came up with real-world experiential learning to further help students gain expertise and knowledge in different fields. Through micro-credentials, they can learn specific skills and in the end, gain valuable certifications to add to their resumes. These include Mapúa-ASU Certificates in Data Analytics and Machine Learning, Power BI: Coursera, and Python.

Lastly, acknowledging that 21st-century education entails harnessing digital technologies and tools, Mapúa and ASU are committed to providing a competitive advantage to their students, especially in business, through these innovations to prepare them for future careers in the global business industry.
