Farm damage due to ‘Egay’ hits P62M

MANILA  -Agriculture damage inflicted by Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) has increased to P62 million as of Friday, from P53 million on Thursday, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said.

In its latest bulletin, the DA said the number of affected farmers in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Calabarzon, Mimaropa and Caraga rose to  3,679 also on Friday,  from 2,303 as of Thursday.

The volume of production loss was estimated at 2,035.4 metric tons (MT) covering 4,315 hectares of agricultural areas.

“Affected commodities include rice, corn, livestock and poultry. Additional damage and losses are expected in areas affected by Egay,” it added.

Corn farms logged the biggest damage at P32.6 million. Rice farms followed with P28.2 million and livestock and poultry, P1.2 million.
