MANILA -The first segment of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) Cavite extension project is on track to service passengers by the fourth quarter next year, according to Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC)
In a statement Thursday, the LRT-1 private operator said they have made significant progress with the first five stations of the 11.8-kilometer extension project, registering a completion rate of 88 percent in the first half of 2023.
There are ongoing works related to civil and structural, structural steel, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection.
“This is a testament that we at LRMC remain highly attuned to our common goal of upgrading the commuter experience, especially in the southern part of Metro Manila with phase 1 traversing the cities of Pasay and Paranaque,” LRMC president and CEO Juan Alfonso said.
The first phase includes the following stations: Redemptorist, MIA, Asia World, Ninoy Aquino and Dr. Santos. The second segment consists of Las Piñas Station and Zapote Station while the third and last phase is the Niog Station.
Right-of-way remains to be a major concern as none of the properties for the other two segments have been turned over to LRMC, Alfonso earlier told reporters.
The project, which covers major cities Quezon City, Caloocan, Manila, Pasay and Parañaque, is targeted to be completed by 2027. It is designed to cater to 800,000 passengers daily.
“We give credit to the hardworking men and women of LRMC and our contractors who are tirelessly working on the ground for this milestone of LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 Project,” Alfonso said.
