Basic Energy eyes 168-MW wind project in Batangas

MANILA  -After winning a service contract from the Department of Energy (DOE), listed Basic Energy Corp. (BEC) will develop a wind project in Batangas province in the next five years in a goal to boost the Luzon grid’s generation capacity by up to 168 megawatts (MW).

In a stock exchange disclosure on Friday, BEC said it has exclusive rights to explore, develop and utilize wind energy resources within the 2,835-hectare contracted area near the Calatagan peninsula for its Balayan wind power project, which it plans to build near the shore.

“The company is expected to declare the project’s commerciality within the provided five-year period in the predevelopment stage of the service contract,” BEC said in its disclosure, adding that it would deploy resources to validate wind strength in the area.
