MANILA -Industry giant Globe Telecom said it was the first in the Philippines to deploy “end-to-end” 5G “network slicing,” which gives the operator flexibility on how it allocates data to different applications.
Network slicing is one of the defining features of 5G, which is touted as the next-generation mobile standard that offers ultra-fast internet speeds. Globe said in a statement on Monday the feature was “successfully tested for cloud gaming, a virtual reality laboratory (VR Lab), video surveillance analytics, augmented reality remote assistance, video streaming and robots.”
“Network slicing stands out in delivering a tailored service experience for our customers based on the applications in use within the network,” Gerhard Tan, Globe director and head of technology strategy and innovations, said in a statement on Monday.
Globe said it also tested 5G network slicing across the access, transport and core part of its network.
“All slices were meticulously tested and validated, successfully achieving aggregated speed results of 800 Mbps (megabits per second) with varying slice speed of up to 200 Mbps depending on the bandwidth requirement of each slice type,” the telco giant said. “With this advancement, Globe is equipped to offer customers a personalized, high-quality, secure and adaptable network experience,” it said.
