Use unified cybersecurity platform, PH firms urged

MANILA  -Global technology company Fortinet has advised Filipino firms to use a unified cybersecurity platform to protect their systems backed by cloud solutions—a trend that has been on the rise in line with increasing digitalization.

In a recent statement, the company noted that more organizations have been migrating to cloud platforms, which allow them to have better access to their computer networks and give greater agility in their work.

Cloud technology provides users access to storage, software and servers via the internet. Doing work via digital platforms has become popular since the onset of pandemic that had curtailed mobility.

While this modern technology supports operational efficiency, Fortinet has warned against growing opportunities for attacks by hackers.

“Applying a cybersecurity mesh platform approach provides businesses centralized visibility, automation and management to secure their application workflows across various locations,” Fortinet Philippines country manager Alan Reyes said.

“Because of this, security teams can take advantage of intelligence sharing to quickly respond to cyber threats. With this, organizations can decrease the effect of the skills gap, improve the security team’s effectiveness and enhance efficiencies,” he added.

Last year, cybersecurity firm Kaspersky detected over 304,000 ransomware attacks targeting businesses in the Southeast Asian region. About 21,000 of these were in the Philippines.
