Philippine Food Trek in SG

As part of its celebrations for Independence Day, the Philippine embassy in Singapore is holding a Food Trek where the public is invited to visit Filipino restaurants and food outlets in the “Lion City.” Ambassador Medardo Antonio Macaraig must be applying the age-old wisdom that the way to a people’s heart is through the stomach!
The Food Trek, according to Vice Consul Joy Lai, is a celebration of the growing Filipino food and beverage community in Singapore. She adds that everyone is invited to explore the flavors of the Philippines, “whether it is through traditional Filipino fare, a mix of culinary styles or as (simply using) the special ‘Made in the Philippines’ ingredient to complete the flavor of international cuisines.”
The Philippine embassy is promoting the following Filipino establishments: Kubo, Second Serving, Chez Suzette, Alegria, Max’s, Jollibee, Lechon Republic, My Little Spanish Place, Konyo, Iskina Cebu, The Chocolate Chamber and S&W Premium.
Kubo offers the creative menu of chef Kurt Sombero who hails from Marbel, South Cotabato but has worked in the kitchens of chef Cyrille Soenen at Impressions Restaurant at Resorts World; Andre Chiang at the chef’s eponymous showroom Restaurant Andre in Singapore; and Dave Pynt of Burnt Ends. Chez Suzette (@chezsuzettesg on Instagram) is a really cute, Instagram-worthy cafe. Their website says, “At Chez Suzette, we want to build a community and bring to life that sense of belonging with our interpretation of a home away from home. With that in mind, we take pride in our exceptional service to make you feel right at home with us, whilst we bring to you a variety of food and beverage offerings including our freshly baked pastries, artisanal coffee as well as a range of specially curated French wine and unique nonalcoholic beverages to whet your appetite.” They offer a complete cafe menu that runs the range from an English breakfast to pastas, burgers and duck confit. • Taste Philippines @ NTUC Fairprice. This event celebrates “10 years of Philippine Foods at NTUC FairPrice” with the opening of the 29th Filipino food bay at Bukit Timah Plaza FairPrice Finest. This runs until July 31.
• Kamayan sa Bukid. This ‘Filipino lunch buffet’ is hosted by the restaurant Konyo on Saturdays and Sundays of June at Cuppage Terrace (29 Cuppage Road).
• Independence Day Specials by Kubo Woodfired Kitchen.
