MANILA -Globe Telecom Inc. has built its 25th facility powered by renewable energy in the country thanks to the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Green Energy Option Program.
In a statement on Wednesday, Globe said it had shifted a high-energy utilization facility in Iloilo province to renewable energy.
GEOP is a DOE initiative that allows end-users to choose renewable energy technologies as their source of electricity.
“By shifting our high-energy utilization facilities to renewable energy sources, we are contributing to the Philippines’ efforts to support the country’s sustainable energy agenda and address the associated risks of climate change,” said Rizza Eala, Globe chief finance
officer.

Other Globe facilities running on renewable energy are located at several cities in Metro Manila, as well as the provinces of Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Tarlac and Cebu.
This is part of the company’s climate action strategy to help achieve its “net-zero” goal by 2050, effectively reducing the country’s carbon emissions as one of the Philippines’ biggest companies, it said.
To recall, the telco giant began buying renewable energy with verified carbon offsets in 2019 through power purchase agreements with retail electricity suppliers.
Globe has also adapted alternative energy solutions to reduce its reliance on traditional diesel generating sets (gensets) and the national grid through solar hybrid gensets and onsite solar panels. INQ
