MANILA  -Globe Telecom pledged to register all its active users by July 25 after experiencing a “slowdown” in volume after the deadline was extended last April by 90 days.

“Since the deadline was extended, there has been a slowdown in SIM registration volume, which is consistent across all players in the market. Despite this, Globe remains unfazed,” the telco giant said in a statement.

It said 85 percent of active users have been registered so far.

The National Telecommunications Commission earlier extended the deadline for SIM registration, which was designed to cut text messaging-based scams. Some users also raised complaints about the confusing registration process.

Globe said it implemented “various steps to make registration as easy and accessible as possible”. This included opening up GCash as a channel for fully verified Globe and TM users to register their SIM cards.
