This is my first Mother’s Day without my mom so I confess I have been having a hard time writing this one. But it’s wonderful to be able to look back at all the food you ate together and all the places you visited together. So I strongly encourage everyone to treat your mom extra special today, because when you are no longer together, the memories stay alive.

Aside from eating, you can also cook together. There’s a concept shop called I Did It Myself (IDIM) where you can bake together. It’s a cute confectionary studio at SM Megamall and SM Aura where customers bake and decorate pastries or other treats themselves. This would be an excellent bonding session with mom! I still remember learning how to bake brownies with my mom when I was a little girl, and remember how she preferred cashew nuts over peanuts to top the brownies. But IDIM would be a great adult bonding experience too!

You don’t need to be a chef or even a home cook to sign up. The shop welcomes everyone regardless of baking skills.

The interiors are very sweet, elegant, bright and light too. Upon entering, you will realize it’s not your usual patisserie. Instead, a receptionist will give you a menu of what you yourself can bake, offering a selection of chocolate cake, matcha cake, cookies, etc.

A fee of under P2,000 will also cover baking ingredients, decorations, staff assistance, around two hours in the studio, a detailed recipe and instructions on how to bake your chosen dessert, use of appliances and a baking coach.

So for Mother’s Day, why not bake with your mom and hand her a bouquet of cupcake roses? IDIM is also throwing in a pinwheel pendant as bonus for Mother’s Day—how cute—then you and your mom can have matching necklaces.

However way you choose to celebrate, cherish every moment and keep the memories in your heart. My sister Goldee and I are blessed to have lived life to the fullest with our mom, Carmelita, so I have memories sweeter than anything from Ladurée! I hope you make invaluable memories with your mom, too!!

Happy Mother’s Day to all moms everywhere!! You are so incredibly special. I hope you have the sweetest day!
