Philippine e-wallet now available in UK, Canada

MANILA  -GCash further expanded its presence across the globe after recently activating services in the United Kingdom and Canada and is currently gearing up to make its offerings available to more countries.

Winsley Bangit, chief customer officer of the e-wallet service provider, told reporters they were choosing the locations for their launch where many Filipinos could benefit from the platform.

“Of course, we are also working with the regulators to make sure that we are compliant,” he said.

GCash is now available in Japan, Australia, Italy and the United States. Users can download and use the app in those countries using international SIM (subscriber identity module) cards.

GCash Overseas is currently in the pilot testing stage. The full launch is expected this year.

This will eventually enable GCash users from outside the country to send money to their recipients in the Philippines for free. Other services include bills payment and load credit purchase.

Apart from this, it is also ramping up nonfungible token (NFT) offerings. An NFT is a form of digital asset that GCash is making available via GCrypto.

Users can access curated NFT collections, including The House of OhLala by Filipino contemporary artist Reen Barrera. The financial technology player is currently working with more collaborators to expand the portfolio.

“We want the young and upcoming. We want to support the emerging Filipino artists,” Bangit said.

Other features of the super app include stock trading, online shopping insurance, cross-border QR (quick response) payment and installment purchases. INQ
