IMI to assemble Zero Motorcycles e-bikes

MANILA , Philippines  -The Ayala Group’s semiconductor and electronics manufacturing arm, Integrated Micro-Electronics Inc. (IMI), signed an agreement with US-based Zero Motorcycles Inc for the assembly of  Zero electric motorcycles in the country, with the aim of beginning mass production by the second quarter of 2023.

Zero Motorcycles, conceptualized in a garage in Santa Cruz, California, makes high-performance electric motorcycles. Prices listed on its website showed the bikes were priced at P1 million and above.

“IMI has the expertise in both electronics manufacturing and motorcycle assembly all located under one roof. The strategic manufacturing collaboration involves both the full assembly of the motorcycles as well as partial, modular assemblies,” the company said in a statement.

IMI said in the statement it would assemble Zero’s electric motorcycle models in their facility in Laguna in conjunction with the manufacturing facilities for Zero in Scott’s Valley, California.

Tan, CEO of IMI, said in the statement.

“Expanding our manufacturing footprint into a new region allows us to efficiently scale up to meet the rapidly growing demand for our products and improve customer delivery and satisfaction in the fast-growing [electric vehicle market,” Sam Paschel, CEO of Zero Motorcycles said in the same statement.

“We are thrilled to partner with IMI and bring their expertise in electronics manufacturing and motorcycle assembly to the Zero Motorcycles lineup of products,” he added.
