Four San Miguel toll roads now in design phase

MANILA , Philippines  – Four toll road projects of San Miguel Corp. (SMC) units are currently undergoing preparation for detailed engineering design, according to the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB).

These are Skyway O&M Corp.’s Pasig River Expressway (PAREx), Northern Access Link Expressway (NALEx) and Southern Access Link Expressway (SALEx) and Manila Toll Expressway Systems Inc.’s South Luzon Expressway Toll Road 5 (SLEx-TR5).

Detailed engineering design refers to crafting of actual engineering designs and cost estimates, among others.

The 19.37-kilometer (km) PAREx project is a six-lane, elevated toll road passing through the Pasig River from Radial Road 10 in Manila and proposed South East Metro Manila Expressway at Circumferential Road 6. It has a project cost of P81.53 billion.

The P148.30-billion NALEx, which has two phases, is the first component of the Greater Capital Region Integrated Expressways Network. The phase 1 will provide connectivity between Metro Manila, the New Manila International Airport and Central Luzon while phase two is an extension from Pampanga to Tarlac City.

The P152.39 billion SALEx, meanwhile, is the second component of the Greater Capital Region Integrated Expressways Network. It is an elevated expressway comprising of the Shoreline Expressway and Metro Manila Skyway.

SLEx-TR5, which has a project cost of P28.15 billion, is designed to have eight segments passing through Quezon, Camarines Sur, Albay and Sorsogon.

Recently, San Miguel  and the Cavite government inked the tollway concession agreement for the P27-billion Cavite-Batangas Expressway (CBEx).

CBEx is a 27.06-km toll road passing through Silang, Amadeo, Tagaytay, Indang, Mendez and Alfonso in Cavite and Nasugbu, Batangas. It is estimated to cater to 40,000 motorists per day during its first three years of operations.

“It will also improve connectivity between the National Capital Region and Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon, enhance the mobility of people and goods in the area, and mitigate road congestion in Calabarzon,” the conglomerate said earlier.

SMC’s toll road portfolio currently includes the South Luzon Expressway, Skyway stages 1, 2 and 3, Southern Tagalog Arterial Road, the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway, Naia Expressway and Alabang South Skyway extension.
