Bongbong Marcos: Mega Prime plant in Batangas to spur growth, help address food insecurity
MANILA, Philippines — The new manufacturing plant of Mega Prime Foods Inc. will contribute to the government’s efforts in ensuring food security in the country, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said on Wednesday.
Marcos said the new plant would help meet the rising local demand for canned sardines as it would be producing more than 11,600 metric tons, which is 27 percent of the supply insufficiency.
“This will greatly contribute to our efforts in ensuring food security and making seafood more convenient to consume for families across the country, especially during times [of crises],” he said in his speech at the inauguration of Mega’s manufacturing plant in Sto. Tomas, Batangas.
He said the new plant supports the administration’s initiatives on zero hunger, decent work and economic growth goals set by the United Nations as it is expected to generate jobs.
The President said the new plant would also contribute to achieving the government’s target of a 10-percent annual increase in approved investments in the agribusiness sector.
Marcos congratulated Mega on the inauguration of its new facility, saying it came at a time when the country is recovering from the losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I hope that you will remain steadfast in your commitment to providing Filipino families with the most innovative, high-quality, and best value-for-money food [products] that we will see in the years ahead,” he said.
Mega Global putting up P1-B R&D, manufacturing hub in Batangas
The P1-billion manufacturing plant is expected to create over 1,000 jobs once fully operational, Mega Prime Foods,a subsidiary of Mega Global Corp., said in a statement on Wednesday.
The new plant features state-of-the art equipment and facilities and incorporates green features, including a warehouse, a fishmeal plant with a zero-waste system and cold storage facilities that are “environmentally friendly,” it said.
