Anchored in the commemoration of World Cancer Awareness, Roche (Philippines) Inc. partnered with the Philippine College of Surgeons (PCS) – Cancer Commission Foundation to spotlight the growing threat of cancer and the need for urgent and collective action to bridge gaps in cancer care through the communication, complementation, and collaboration. 

The PCS-Cancer Commission Foundation is a nationally recognized institution that aims to promote quality cancer care across all regions and sectors in the Philippines through value-based, high-quality cancer surgery services and research. 

Roche Cancer Summit

On February 23-24, 2023, the foundation will host the annual Philippine Cancer Summit to rally all stakeholders in the battle against cancer. 

It is expected to be an avenue for collaboration among public and private stakeholders and advocates for enhancing the economic, social, and physical well-being of Filipinos living with Cancer, Cancer Survivors, and their families. 

Roche (Philippines) Inc., a leader in health system shaping through its different local and national in scope healthcare innovative solutions, is one of the Gold Sponsors in this summit which will be held at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila, Ortigas, Quezon City. The summit will be attended by face-to-face and online participants composed of Clinicians, Healthcare Professionals, Advocates, Government & Policy Makers, Local Government Units, Lay People, Families, and Patients Living with Cancer.

The vision of the summit is to inspire all partners of the healthcare ecosystem to collaborate and interactively work together. Through the scheduled pocket and plenary sessions, there will be an opportunity to share knowledge, expertise, experiences, research, good practice models, best practices, and social innovations for promoting and advancing integrated, multidisciplinary, patient-focused, quality cancer care and management.

As part of the pocket sessions on February 23, Roche (Philippines) Inc. will lead two discussions focusing on innovations for Women’s Cancers and multi-level and multi-sectoral partnerships and collaborations.

Topic: Innovations for Women’s Cancer through Project BrIDGE (Breast 

Cancer Integrated Disease solutions in a Guideline-driven 

Ecosystem)

The objective of this discussion is to highlight the importance of strengthening our collaboration with the public and private partners and broadening our network to bridge care gaps in breast cancer so that the right woman receives the proper care, at the right time. Dr. Frederic Ivan L. Ting, a Bacolod-based Medical Oncologist, and Dr. May Ann I. Soliva-Sta. Lucia, Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Division Chief of the Department of Health (DOH) Western Visayas Local Health Support Division, will lead this session.

Topic: 2030 Mission Leapfrog Project (MLP): Re-telling Women’s Cancer 

story to bring the right health solution at the right time to all

The objective of this session is to highlight the impact of the MLP in the realization of the Universal Healthcare (UHC) Law and the National Integrated Cancer Control Act (NICCA) Law to achieve equitable access to breast and cancer care  through a fully funded referral system and public-private partnership. Different MLP Partners will facilitate this discussion, such as Dr. Marthony “Ato” Basco, Valenzuela City Health Officer, and Dr. May Ann I. Soliva-Sta. Lucia.

On the second day of the summit, February 24, 2023, Roche (Philippines) Inc. sponsored a Lunch Symposium entitled “Transforming Healthcare Through Innovation and Public Private Partnership,” which mainly focuses on inspiring leaders and healthcare ecosystem stakeholders to take action in addressing the huge burden of cancer through public-private partnerships and highlighting Roche’s initiatives in health system shaping and innovation as examples of sustainable public-private partnerships.

Different thought leaders and health system-shaping advocates composed of Dr. Diana Edralin, Roche (Philippines) Inc. General Manager, Dr. Mariza Magan, Schools Division Superintendent of the Department of Education (DepEd) Tacloban City Divsion, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, Dr. Maria Ofelia Alcantara, Health System Specialist, and Deputy Majority Leader Honorable Philip Jude Acidre of Tingog Partylist, will discuss the following key points;

  • How Roche contributes in transforming the ecosystem through sustainable solutions with our partnerships and innovations;
  • Observed challenges that women/teachers experience in accessing cancer care;
  • The catalytic role of Local Government Units (LGU) in delivering cancer care to the grassroots and localizing NICCA;
