Ford launches EcoSport SUV

NEW DELHI, India—Stepping up the pace after an aggressive year when most of its branches worldwide surpassed sales targets, Ford introduced Thursday the All-New Ford EcoSport in a global reveal at the Auto Expo 2012 here.

Considered the world’s first B Segment SUV, the all-new EcoSport is one of several all-new global One Ford vehicles that the company is launching this year.

The new Focus, for example, is tipped to be released in the last quarter of the year.

The EcoSport is the big version of the hot-selling Fiesta, which contributed largely to Ford’s strong performance in the Philippines in 2011.

The modern and innovative design of the all-new Ford EcoSport, key officials of Ford said, was aimed at attracting a new generation of consumers in different global markets.

Key attributes of the model are a robust body, good fuel efficiency and safety features. The high ground clearance should also add to its marketability.

Vinay Paparsiana, the new VP for marketing and sales of Ford Group Philippines, said that the arrival and even the final specs of the EcoSport for Philippine consumers are still in the planning stages. This early though, the 1.0 liter version with an Eco-boost engine that will be released in India is creating a stir.

“The all-new Ford EcoSport reflects our commitment to serve our customers with the cars and trucks they truly want and value,” said Alan Mulally, president and CEO, Ford Motor Company.

Mulally led a team of Ford executives at the EcoSport launch here as if to reaffirm the Blue Oval brand’s special affection toward the Asian market, where much of its sales growth in the next few years is expected to come from.
