The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is exploring a potential digital cooperation with Denmark to enhance digitalization in the country.
In a recent statement, Information and Communications Technology Undersecretary Anna Mae Lamentillo said she had a recent discussion about digital adoption initiatives with Danish Ambassador to the Philippines, Franz-Michael Skjold Mellbin.
She noted that the country could benefit from Denmark’s technical knowledge on cybersecurity, e-governance, digital health and maritime digital transition.
“Denmark is well-advanced in developing and using digital solutions. New technological solutions help them address the capacity challenge of health worker shortage,” she said.
“Denmark is also a pioneer in digital shipping registries and digital certificates for seafarers on Danish flagged ships. These solutions have helped reduce administrative burdens, lower costs and easier access to data. We hope to learn much from them in these areas,” she added.
The DICT official said the agency has been looking at establishing partnerships with other countries to further their technical expertise in the field.
Earlier this month, DICT chief Ivan John Uy signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) Minister Jin Zhuanglong to enhance digital cooperation.
Under this MoU, the countries will exchange knowledge, technical expertise and best practices on artificial intelligence, 5G, cloud computing, big data, internet of things and other emerging technologies.
The cooperation also covers support to boost the telecommunication industry, which has been seeing continuous growth in the advent of increasing digital adoption.
The government agency, meanwhile, targets to activate by the first half the Luzon Bypass Infrastructure phase 1, a fiber connectivity project, to address the increasing usage of digital platforms. The 240-kilometer fiber line will link the cable landing stations in Baler, Aurora and Poro Point, La Union.
The DICT also plans to set up free WiFi sites in 9,762 public spaces and 162 state universities, colleges and Technical Education And Skills Development Authority institutions
