On Friday, MANILA, Philippines —KFC Philippines said it is working closely with the Pasig city government and concerned agencies to ensure their compliance with environmental regulations.
Mayor Vico Sotto had shuttered one of its branches over an alleged sanitation breach and lack of an environmental permit.
“KFC is working closely with the LGU regarding the issues raised by Mayor Sotto,” the company said in a statement.
“We fully support Mayor Vico Sotto’s program to make Pasig City a haven for environment-friendly establishments,” it said. “Rest assured that this is on top of our priority list.”
The popular fast food chain added that they have also coordinated with the Laguna Lake Development Authority and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources “to make sure we are complying with all the pertinent local and national environmental regulations.”
On Thursday, Sotto said the wastewater from KFC’s branch in Barangay Kapasigan is being dumped directly into a nearby creek and that the store has no Environmental Permit to Operate (EPO).
The mayor said the branch could reopen once it can secure an EPO.
