CAB executive director Carmelo Arcilla said Tuesday that from Level 8 in December, the fuel surcharge will go down to Level 7 from January 1.

“Ngayong January 1 bababa pa tayo ng level 7. Magiging 7 sa January 1. Malaking bagay din ‘yan sa ating mga riding public,” he said in a public briefing.

(On January 1, the fuel surcharge level will go down to 7. That’s a big thing for our riding public.)

“Sana magpatuloy, although volatile ang presyo sa pandaigdigang merkado at hindi ma-predict, kaya mayroon tayong ganitong taas-baba,” he added.

(We hope this continues, although the prices are volatile in the global market, and we cannot predict them, that’s why this up-down trend.)

Arcilla also said that the lower fuel surcharge would depend on the distance traveled, but he insisted that the difference would be “significant.”

Under CAB Resolution No. 25, which provides the fuel surcharge matrix, the Level 7 rate ranges from P219-P739 per one-way domestic flight and P722.71-P5,373.69 per one-way international flight.

The fuel surcharge matrix ranges from Level 0 to 20.
