Maynilad earmarks P2.8B for new pumping stations, reservoirs

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. is allocating P2.8 billion for the construction of five new pumping stations and reservoirs in Quezon City, Valenzuela, Muntinlupa and Cavite over the next five years.

These new facilities will boost water pressure in the pipe network and add 211 million liters to Maynilad’s water storage capacity, thus enhancing supply distribution particularly in elevated areas where water availability is still limited.

Besides these new facilities, Maynilad is also spending about P1.5 billion to rehabilitate 17 of its existing pumping stations and reservoirs to ensure operational efficiency and sustain optimum performance.

These projects form part of Maynilad’s P219.8-billion total spending plan for 2023 to 2027, which also covers the construction of new water and wastewater treatment plants, replacement and repair of old pipelines, among others.

“Through these infrastructure investments, we hope to support the growing demand for water and improve service reliability for the long term,” said Maynilad president and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez.

The water company currently has 38 pumping stations and 37 reservoirs located in strategic locations throughout its concession area—up from only seven operational pumping stations and reservoirs in 2006 before the company was re-privatized.
