What is built well, lasts strong

Lasting partnerships are those that are rooted in trust and time. The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) and Ayala Land, Inc. (ALI) add one more element: shared vision.

The Makati Stock Exchange Building in Ayala Avenue, Makati City, where the Makati Stock Exchange moved in 1971. The structure is one of the first few buildings in the country’s pioneer central business district.

A longstanding locator in Ayala Land office properties is the country’s symbol of business and progress – The Philippine Stock Exchange. The PSE has evolved from the iconic and National Artist Leandro V. Locsin-designed Makati Stock Exchange Building along Ayala Avenue, to Ayala Land’s headquarter building at the Tower One and Exchange Plaza, and finally to the modern office skyscraper PSE Tower in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) that was made memorable by its ticker board and 100% glass façade.

All its locations are the primest spots in the metropolis, showing ALI’s strategic long term vision when it comes to their developments. It was only right therefore for the PSE to hold office in these cities that are positioned as the premier financial and business hubs in the country.

PSE’s confidence in ALI’s property management is evident in their five decades of working together. Since 1971, ALI has been providing building services to PSE’s (then-Makati Stock Exchange) headquarters when the latter moved to the architectural landmark Makati Stock Exchange Building.

The rest is history, as the building truly became synonymous with the bourse even after becoming the Philippine Stock Exchange, following the merger between the Manila and Makati Stock Exchanges in 1992.

The PSE would stay in the Makati Central Business District until 2017, when ALI with its partners in Fort Bonifacio Development Corporation completed the jewel building in BGC.

Designed by Handel Architects and Leandro V. Locsin Partners with GFP Architects serving as architect of record, the PSE also actively participated in its conceptualization and development. Built like a jewel box, it was envisioned to be a symbol of commerce and financial activity, much like any stock exchange around the globe.

The Philippine Stock Exchange Tower that served as the headquarters and unified trading floor of the PSE, was completed in 2017.

The move to The Philippine Stock Exchange Tower consolidated the two trading floors which were previously in Makati and Ortigas. ALI kept up with the times and optimized the entire building for digitalization to allow the PSE to trade in real-time with the rest of the world.

The future of space

Growth will still be continuous for the stock exchange and one of the country’s leading developers. As the country eases into its better normal, Ayala Land is positive that the need for office spaces where people can physically interact and collaborate will increase.

A testament to a solid partnership, Ayala Land and the PSE have harmoniously worked together over many years and across locations, bound by their common desire to contribute to the Philippines’ economic growth.
