PCCI in full support of Marcos admin’s plans for PH economy- Barcelon

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) committed its “full support” to the economic plans of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration.

PCCI president George Barcelon said this in a video released by the Office of the Press Secretary on Friday, where he hailed the “uplifting” economic momentum of the Philippines.

“The recent release of the gross domestic product numbers is very uplifting,” he said, noting that the Philippines’ 7.6 percent third quarter  was among the highest in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) at 7.6 percent.

“We firmly believe, under the leadership of President [Bongbong Marcos], that this will continue,” Barcelon said. “We’re very positive, and we are in full support of the short-term and long-term plans of this administration.”

Barcelon, a member of the Asean business advisory council, said he believed that the public and private partnerships set to motion by Marcos would “help achieve those numbers again” despite several headwinds like the soaring inflation.

The PCCI chief also said they were looking forward to working with their Asean neighbors on concerns about connectivity and digitalization which, he said, “are fundamental needs of all countries to improve their economy.”

Barcelon and Marcos are in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for the Asean Summits and other related summits, which opened on Friday and will continue until Sunday, November 13.
