With social media being a part of the fabric of our everyday lives, one post by a person with the right influence–who doesn’t even need to be a celebrity or public figure–is enough to make an impact on consumers’ purchasing decisions. Hence, the birth of influencer marketing, which today is heavily influenced by “nano influencers,” online content creators with a following of 5,000 or less. Don’t be fooled by the seemingly small number, though; according to the 2022 Southeast Asia Influencer Marketing Industry report, nano influencers have the highest impact on consumers’ purchases, with 46 percent of consumers surveyed, relying on recommendations from their circle of family and friends, aka your everyday people.
The report, commissioned by Partipost, Asia’s most innovative and fastest-growing crowd marketing platform, also found that only 21 percent of consumers relied on celebrities’ influence when it comes to their buying decisions. Macro influencers and micro influencers had an even smaller share of the pie at 18 and 16 percent, respectively–proving that authentic word-of-mouth marketing still works best for brands today.
“Consumers are turning towards social media to not only research about products and/or services but also to discover them,” says Jonathan Eg, founder and CEO of Partipost, further citing the report, which revealed that 87% of those surveyed spend at least two hours on social media daily, with 46% of them spending more than five hours a day scrolling through their social media feeds.
“As the tech-savvy generation gains purchasing power, it is inevitable that brands must leverage on influencer marketing to reach their future customers,” adds Eg.
Launched in 2016, Partipost essentially matches brands to influencers with the highest brand affinity. Data insights collected through its in-app polls and user behavior enable Partipost’s data-centric framework to crowdsource influencers with follower sizes, ranging from a few hundred to millions of followers, through its user-facing mobile app.
Partipost is currently operating in Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesia, and just last year, Malaysia and here in the Philippines as well. Partipost Philippines is expected to grow rapidly with the state of the creator economy booming in the market.
Automating the process of influencer sourcing and campaign management, Partipost allows brands to run marketing campaigns at scale, with speed, and with influencers with the highest brand affinity. Powered by influencers across all tiers, ranging from a few hundred followers to millions of followers, Partipost has the goal of driving authentic word-of-mouth marketing for brands.
Driven by consumers’ growing need for trust in influencer marketing and commerce, Partipost rewards influencers for both their media reach and message impact in their social media content message, determined by their followers’ responses. Nano influencers are especially impactful because, as “everyday people,” the experiences are seen as authentic and trustworthy, especially since their sphere of influence usually covers their inner circle of family and friends.
Regionally, Partipost has partnered with over 1,000 brands that leveraged on its network of over 800,000 influencers and ran more than 3,000 influencer campaigns, across various industries such as FMCG, Food & Beverage, E-Commerce, Travel, Technology, Fashion, Beauty and more. While they are currently focused on the Asia market, Eg says they believe that everybody has the innate ability to be influential and make a positive impact on others.
“Redistributing marketing spend from the tech giants back to the everyday people is our mission that we think will have a huge impact on the livelihoods of the majority of people in Southeast Asia,” Eg says.
Partipost is set to grow its base by adding operations in Hong Kong, Vietnam and Thailand. The company’s expansion is attributed to the trust of its investors after raising USD$7 million fund this year.
