The Medical City, Marco Polo Ortigas tie up for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The Medical City (TMC) and Marco Polo Ortigas Manila tied the pink ribbon to raise breast cancer awareness and rally in support of breast cancer patients and survivors in October 2022.
As the leading institute in Breast Cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment, TMC aims to make the advocacy on early detection louder with the campaign “Make the Rounds Against Breast Cancer.” In line with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, TMC and Marco Polo inked a Memorandum of Agreement for a partnership that aims not only to raise funds for Akbay Ginhawa Foundation, Inc.–TMC’s non-profit healthcare organization–but also to empower breast cancer conquerors and support them in their journey.
As part of the partnership, Marco Polo Hotel hosted the 15th anniversary celebration of EMBREACE (Eliciting Meaning in Breast Cancer Experience), TMC’s Breast Cancer Support Group on October 8. The meeting, which was attended by breast cancer patients, survivors, and volunteers–or collectively called Breast Friends, was led by Ms. Rose Anne Ambrocio, RN, Nurse Supervisor at TMC, Head of EMBREACE, and a breast cancer survivor herself. Dr. Gia Sison and Ms. Gina Jose–both breast cancer survivors–also graced the event and shared their respective journey. Dr. Maria Fidelis Manalo gave a message of hope to the group, highlighting empathy and compassion to others. Ms. Elizabeth Bravo-Bustamante led the art therapy session.
Further, from October 10 to 31, Marco Polo Ortigas will be offering special pink-themed items in selected food and beverage establishments of the hotel, namely Pink Highball and Pink Osmanthus Sour cocktails and Pink Strawberry Entremet Cake to the public and a portion of its proceeds will go to Akbay Ginhawa.
In turn, TMC Breast Center will facilitate a lay forum on Breast Cancer to Marco Polo Hotel’s employees to forward this cause and encourage regular screening.
TMC Augusto P. Sarmiento Cancer Institute (TMC-APSCI) and Breast Center organized several activities for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, including Share a Hair, a hair donation drive pioneered by TMC 2 years ago for the benefit of cancer patients. Interested hair donors are invited on October 14 and 15, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at TMC Foyer, Ortigas Ave., Pasig City, where haircutters, digital certificates, and freebies await! An art exhibit titled RISE–Reach Out. Include. Support. Empower–is also open for viewing and purchasing until October 15 at TMC Lobby.
