The local unit of Japan-based electronic equipment manufacturer Yokowo Co. Ltd is the latest firm to set up shop in one of the special economic zones in Bataan, bringing with it hundreds of potential jobs for both locals and non-residents.
Science Park of the Philippines Inc. (SPPI), a unit of Investment and Capital Corporation of the Philippines, on Wednesday formally launched Yokowo Manufacturing of the Philippines as its newest locator at the Hermosa Ecozone Industrial Park in Bataan.
“Established at an estimated cost of P230 million, Yokowo’s 3.7-hectare factory in the Philippines will produce automotive wiring harness and components and is expected to hire around 800 people,” SPPI said in an emailed statement.
The Hermosa Ecozone Industrial Park is a 162-hectare industrial estate component of a 478-hectare mixed-use property development in Bataan. The whole property is being developed by the Hermosa Ecozone Development Corp., of which SPPI is a shareholder and general manager.
Aside from the Hermosa estate, SPPI owns, develops and operates private economic zones in three other provinces. These areas include Cabuyao and Calamba in Laguna, Sto. Tomas and Malvar in Batangas, as well as Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu.
Earlier in April of this year, SPPI announced a new data center to be built at the Light Industry & Science Park IV, its 170-hectare industrial zone in Malvar, Batangas.
The data center is being put up by YCO Global Cloud Centers (YCC), a joint venture between Philippine group JJYnchausti and the United States-based Cloud Centers.
The two-story facility, YCO Manila Digital, will be a 10,000 square meter data center with four 3-megawatt data halls, according to SPPI.
YCC focuses on digital infrastructure in the Philippines.
SPPI considers itself as one of the largest private ecozone developers with almost 800 hectares of total area.
It hosts locators from Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, United States, Australia and Europe, some of which are major multinational companies and Fortune 1000 and Forbes Global 2000 firms.
