MANILA, Philippines—The SM group refuted on Wednesday a report that a fatal construction accident had occurred at its Masinag mall in Antipolo.
In a press statement, SM Shopping Centers Management Corp. president Annie Garcia said the report that such an accident had happened in the SM vicinity was “false.”
“The accident did not happen at the SM Masinag, Antipolo, property. It happened at a construction site of a property beside our mall,” Garcia said.
“Just the same, we are helping out in the neighbor’s construction accident. Our SM guards, among others, assisted them and the people of civil defense were very grateful for the quick action of our personnel,” she said.
SM Masinag is developer SM Prime Holdings’ 41st shopping mall in the country and one of its newest, having opened only in May this year. The new mall has a gross floor area of 90,261 square meters and occupies 37,017 square meters of land. It is SM’s second mall in the province of Rizal, after SM City Taytay.
SM Prime Holdings, one of the crown jewels of tycoon Henry Sy, is the biggest mall developer in the country.
