Philippine Narra number one in antioxidants – DLS study

The Philippine Narra tree is a reflection of the Filipino’s strength of character, as seen in its sturdy timber and towering height that persist against harsh elements. However, apart from its durability, a study shows that Philippine Narra is also an excellent source of potent antioxidants that reduce the risk of several diseases and improve one’s overall health.

A study conducted by De la Salle (DLS) Medical and Health Sciences Institute (Dr. Mariano Que Memorial) College of Pharmacy headed by Primary Investigator Timothy Bengala discovered high antioxidant levels in Philippine Narra extract. Antioxidants are known to effectively boost immunity and help with several illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and cancer, among others.

According to the DLS research team’s Contributing Editor Sigfredo Mata, Philippine Narra’s ORAC Score, a measure of antioxidant potency, ranks among the top ten percent among the US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) list of 326 antioxidant-rich food items in the world and the number one antioxidant-producing food item endemic in the Philippines. 

Given the high amount of antioxidants in Philippine Narra, taking food supplements containing pure Philippine Narra extract such as those of Ecarma Health Options may reap more benefits to one’s well-being, namely boosting immunity from various ailments. “In the market, there are a lot of [dietary supplements,] even Narra [such as] Ecarma,” said Dr. Alice Catabay, professor and Head of Research & Development.
