ACCIONA, which has operated in the country since 2016 and opened its Manila commercial office in 2019, has made the Philippines its Southeast Asian hub as it eyes up to $12 billion in local contracts or nearly half of its $25 billion earmarked for the region. It has already become one of the largest construction and water contractors in the country, incorporating modern and sustainable technologies, designs, and innovations in milestone projects, including the Cebu Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) as part of the consortium of Cebu Link Joint Venture (CLJV) with Metro Pacific Investments Corporation, railway lines connecting Malolos with Clark International Airport, the DWTP Putatan II water treatment plant in Muntinlupa for Maynilad Water Services, and the DWTP Laguna Lake with a target final treatment capacity of 150,000 m3 per day.

Acciona.org residential photovoltaic systems in El Nido, Palawan

ACCIONA recently established acciona.org in the country to help provide safe, affordable, and sustainable access to energy, water, and sewerage systems to disadvantaged communities. Its pilot project, “Light at Home El Nido,” in collaboration with Ayala Foundation, focused on giving more than 100 households in Barangay Sibaltan in El Nido, Palawan, third-generation domestic solar-powered systems that will provide more than eight hours of electrical light every day at zero emissions. The initiative is helping the community recover from Typhoon Odette, which damaged the province’s public infrastructure, including electricity, water, and telecommunications. The project is a priority in acciona.org’s global “Luz en Casa” program, which develops models for delivering electricity that is technically and economically adapted to rural communities. In addition, acciona.org is working on projects focused on drinking water, sewerage, and energy access to assist millions of Filipinos in gaining access to essential services.

ACCIONA, which develops and manages sustainable infrastructure and renewable energy to lead the transition toward a low-carbon economy, was the first infrastructure and energy company in 2016 to achieve net-zero carbon emissions globally. Present in more than 40 countries with sales of €8,104 billion in 2021, the Company is committed to contributing to the economic and social development of the communities in which it operates.

acciona.org, its foundation launched in 2008 to promote access to energy, water, and infrastructures for people and communities in remote areas, operates in Peru, Mexico, Panama, and Chile, benefiting more than 68,000 people. It works with public and private national and international organizations that share its development goals, promotes equal participation between men and women in community management, and supports local entrepreneurship to deliver related services. Since its start, acciona.org beneficiary communities have reported increased production, educational and domestic activities, water and energy savings, and health improvements due to lower air and water pollution levels.
