P524-M project of Amazon’s PH unit gets BOI nod

The Philippine Board of Investments (BOI) said on Friday it approved a P524.3-million virtual customer services project of Amazon’s local business unit, which will serve as a platform for their customers to choose from a wide variety of options.

Specifically, the BOI said it approved the application for registration of Amazon Operation Services Philippines Inc. (AOSPI) for its Virtual Customer Services project in its new business site at SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.

“This is just the start of more investments being injected into the country’s economy, specifically into the IT-BPM industry. We are making it happen in the Philippines,” Ceferino Rodolfo, undersecretary of the Department of Trade and managing head of the BOI, said in a statement

Registered entities under the BOI are given fiscal incentives, including tax breaks, as well as and nonfiscal benefits.

AOSPI offers remote technical support services, IT development, customer support, customer care services, business process outsourcing and back-office support.

Prior to this project, AOSPI had three existing sites across the Philippines—one in Metro Manila and two in Cebu City.

The company’s support services include assistance on systems, hardware, software and human resources relating to back office operations, among others.

The BOI said the project will generate 1,058 jobs, contribute P959.5 million to the economy and add P616.9 million to household income.
