Amid the rapid increase in consumer prices, Globe Telecom is rolling out sachet-sized, prepaid fiber connectivity to make its internet more accessible and affordable to consumers.
In a statement Wednesday, the Ayala-led telecommunications player said users could now have internet access of one hour for P5 and 12 hours for P20.
To be able to do so, customers can connect to sari-sari stores, town plazas, community centers and other neighborhood common areas serving as WiFi hotspots.
The firm said the service was part of its “commitment to deliver innovative products to those that need it the most, maximize … fiber footprint, and digitally enable Filipinos through reliable connectivity.”
This was also in response to the public and government’s call for affordable internet, Globe said.
“In order to bridge the digital divide in the country, we want to help those that need it the most. By removing the price barrier, Globe will make fast fiber internet accessible to all,” Globe chief commercial officer Issa Guevarra-Cabreira said.
She said the program would be able support online classes, video streaming and online gaming, among others.
In the first quarter, Globe was able to build 234 new cell sites, upgraded over 3,500 mobile sites and rolled out 380 new 5G sites. Its 5G network now covers 95 percent of the National Capital Region and 84 percent of the Visayas and Mindanao.
