MANILA, Philippines — Bread brands “Pinoy Tasty” and “Pinoy Pandesal” are seeking a four-peso increase in their prices amid rising production costs, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) disclosed Friday.
DTI Undersecretary Ruth Castelo said their office is still reviewing a pending request to increase the price of Pinoy Tasty and Pinoy Pandesal by P4.
Currently, the suggested retail price for Pinoy Tasty is set at P38.50 per 450 gram pack, while Pinoy Pandesal is set at P23.50 per 10 piece-pack. Both are manufactured by Marby Food Ventures.
“Mayroon kaming request ng makers ng bread. Ito lang naman yung Pinoy Tasty and Pinoy Pandesal, this is the only brand of bread na nandoon sa bulletin natin,” Castelo said during the Laging Handa briefing.
(There is a request from bread makers, particularly Pinoy Tasty and Pinoy Pandesal as this is the only brand of bread that is included in our bulletin.)
“May request sila na P4 increase pero hindi pa tayo tapos mag-review so we’re still looking into it,” she added.
(They are requesting a P4 increase but we are not yet done with the review so we’re still looking into it.)
Castelo explained that all requests for changes in the suggested retail price should be acted on first before a new bulletin is released.
The trade official said a recommendation regarding adjustments to the suggested retail price may be submitted to Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual in the “next couple of weeks.”
“Siguro next couple of weeks we’ll be able to submit our recommendation to Secretary Pascual and then pag na-approve na ng DTI secretary, tsaka lang tayo makakapag-publish,” Castelo said.
(Maybe in the next couple of weeks, we’ll be able to submit our recommendation to Secretary Pascual and then once he approves it, that’s the only time we can publish.)
