PSA: Unemployed Filipinos down to 2.76 million in April 2022

MANILA, Philippines — The unemployment rate in the country eased in April 2022, with the number of jobless Filipinos down to 2.76 million, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported Friday.

According to the Labor Force Survey, unemployment rate in the country went down to 5.7 percent in April this year, lower than the 8.7 percent recorded the year prior.

Further, the survey showed that the April 2022 unemployment rate is likewise slightly lower than the 5.8 percent recorded in March this year and 6.4 percent in January and February.

The 5.7 percent unemployment rate equates to 2.76 million jobless Filipinos, which is lower by 1.38 million from the number of unemployed persons in April 2021, the survey stated.

“The country’s unemployment rate has improved from the reported 8.7 percent a year ago to 5.7 percent in April 2022,” the PSA said.

Meanwhile, the employment rate slightly increased from 94.2 percent in March 2022 to 94.3 percent in April of the same year. The April 2022 employment rate is also higher than the 91.3 percent recorded the year prior.

“Employment rate in the country in April 2022 was estimated at 94.3 percent, translating to about 45.63 million employed Filipinos,” the PSA said.

“This was higher compared to the reported employment rate at 91.3 percent in April 2021 or a year-on-year  increase of about 2.36 million employed Filipinos from 43.27 million in April 2021,” it added.
