The country’s equities and fixed-income exchanges welcomed members of the incoming Marcos administration’s economic team as it looks forward to new regulations and reforms to grow the country’s capital markets.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Philippine Stock Exchange Inc. (PSE) and the Philippine Dealing System Holdings Corp. (PDS) lauded President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for nominating a “competent [and] experienced” set of professionals.

These were Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Benjamin Diokno as secretary of Finance, Monetary Board member Felipe Medalla (as the new BSP Governor), Philippine Competition Commission Chair Arsenio Balisacan as socioeconomic planning secretary and director general of the National Economic and Development Authority, and Alfredo Pascual as secretary of Trade and Industry.

“The PSE and PDS recognize that these individuals are competent, experienced professionals who are all imbued with a public service mindset and most qualified to steer the economy back on track on its growth trajectory,” the joint statement showed.

“Furthermore, with their appreciation of the role of the capital markets as an engine for economic growth, we look forward to their support and help in advancing regulations and reforms that will further develop and deepen the Philippine capital markets,” it added.
