The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) said director Rachel Esther Gumtang-Remalante has been named one of Asia’s Top Sustainability Superwomen for 2021.
In a statement, the SEC said Gumtang-Remalante joins the list of 10 exceptional women from Asia “who showed their excellence and contribution toward driving change and making a long-lasting impact in the area of sustainability.”
She currently heads the SEC Corporate Governance and Finance Department (CGFD).
As CGFD director, she oversaw the issuance of SEC Memorandum Circular No. 4, Series of 2019. This provides the Sustainability Reporting Guidelines for Public Listed Companies. The guidelines directed PLCs to report their contributions to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, in addition to their sustainability efforts.
“I am deeply honored to join the ranks of women who have made significant strides in ensuring sustainability for their organizations,” Gumtang-Remalante said in the statement.
