For most people, the most common and strongest driving force to succeed in life is their family. This is especially true for Insular Life or InLife’s Top Underwriter of the Year Arslie Malipero. His family inspired him to pursue a career as a financial advisor back in 1996, and to succeed in this profession.
Arslie of CPV Malipero and Associates Insurance Agency, Inc., was born and raised in Davao del Norte, with five sisters. “Being the only male among us siblings, and being among the older ones, I needed to have a strong sense of responsibility and work hard for both my needs and my family’s needs. So, before I found myself in the insurance industry, I previously worked as a pharmaceutical and consumer product salesperson for five years, going around most parts of Mindanao,” he shared.
Arslie’s wife Caroline, one daughter and three sons complete his motivation to succeed as a financial advisor. “But through the years, my inspiration to become a competent financial advisor grew deeper, with more reasons to continue,” he said, adding that from his own family, his driving force for success now includes his clients – the many other Filipino families who are planning their financial future.
Arslie explained that financial advisors impart knowledge to individuals and families that life insurance is not only an economic value but an income replacement in case of unfortunate events. He stressed that an insurance plan serves as a safety net in times of crisis and provides financial freedom and protection.
“The financial advisor has an opportunity to become part of a family’s financial security plan and plays a crucial role in generating funds for the family’s needs, like education, for example. The plan gives the families the financial freedom wherein they can sustain themselves with a quality way of living without having to worry much about struggling in the future,” he said.
While last year’s COVID-19 pandemic posed several challenges when it comes to insurance selling and face-to-face client meetings, Arslie focused on the opportunities from the crisis.
“Clients always had time to answer calls. We also saved time that was usually spent on transportation. The pandemic has opened peoples’ eyes on how important life insurance could be, as the future in these trying times has become more uncertain. I took this as an opportunity to increase my sales activity, and to answer the needs of my clients including updates on their fund values, while also assuring my clients how dependable InLife is,” Arslie said.
Financial advisor in focus
Being a financial advisor is not usually on the list of commonly aspired for professions among Filipinos. Beyond the service-oriented goal of this career, why should others consider becoming financial advisors?
Arslie pointed out that while financial advisors help their clients achieve financial freedom, they also enjoy financial freedom. He added that financial advisors are financially rewarded for their hard work, thus they can afford quality lifestyle for their family, good education for their children, and a strong means to spend.
Arslie also shared that the job provides work-life balance, career development opportunities and travel incentives. “Being a financial advisor enabled me to grow in my career. And whenever I reach my goal for the year, I always have the opportunity to travel abroad as one of the job’s benefits,” he said.
Now counting 25 years as a financial advisor, Arslie expressed confidence that he will continue to grow in his career with InLife.
“InLife adapts and competes well in the industry, even when compared to multinational companies. InLife promotes the Filipino core values of bayanihan and malasakit. These are apparent in how the company takes on an agent-centered approach where insurance agents or financial advisors are well taken cared of with significant benefits and can grow their careers to great lengths,” Arslie said.
“I take pride in being part of InLife, the largest Filipino life insurance company in the country. InLife leverages on its 111 years of experience in financial protection, savings, retirement, and investments to help Filipinos prepare for their future,” he added.
Arslie’s recent recognition as InLife’s Top Underwriter of the Year adds to his inspiration to continue guiding more Filipino families through financial planning and to reach greater lengths as a financial advisor.
