Volunteers give life to SMDC Health and Wellness Caravans
SM Development Corporation (SMDC) has always been a community of volunteers. The pandemic did not even stop the Good Guys from spreading hope and bringing light to different communities in need, especially during those trying times.
Recently, SMDC and its fleet of volunteers came to Carmona, Cavite to hold its Health and Wellness Caravan. In collaboration with the said LGU, residents were provided with free medical, dental, and eye checkups.
Volunteer nurses and doctors, who are SMDC residents, took charge of helping the patients go through their checkups seamlessly. As SMDC provides an opportunity for their residents to reach out to people in need, the volunteers themselves were able to make a difference in the lives of other people.
“By immersing myself in activities such as these and surrounding myself with people who are dedicated at helping people, I gain a unique sense of purpose just by serving our communities. It’s a different kind of joy, seeing their faces light up as we attend to their needs,” said one volunteer nurse.
SMDC residents, the Philippine Red Cross, and doctors from SM Foundation dedicated their day attending to the communities in Carmona. After registration, the patients’ vital signs were checked and then they proceeded to the doctors for their consultation.
SMDC is a true home of the good guys, as its residents are actively participating and involved in various community development activities of the company. SMDC is thankful for the passion of its residents and employees to give back to the community and extend a helping hand.
For the past two years, SMDC did not hesitate to provide the necessary services to its residents to ensure that they are healthy and safe. To provide that to their tenants, SMDC started calling for volunteers who will assist them in providing free medical check-ups to senior residents as well as the other residents in need of healthcare. This volunteerism program grew bigger as SMDC brought the wellness caravans outside its residential developments.
With the help of over 600 SMDC volunteers, the country’s premier real estate developer was able to provide free medical check-ups in various SMDC developments. Apart from their residences, the Good Guys Health and Wellness Caravan went to various communities including Barangay Bundagul in Mabalacat, Pampanga last January 27; Fame Residences in Mandaluyong City on January 28; Breeze Residences in Pasay City on January 29; and Marilao, Bulacan on March 31. In May and June, SMDC’s Wellness Caravan will make stops in Brgy Sun Valley in Parañaque and Joy Residences in Baliwag, Bulacan.
“As I volunteer, I feel like I am part of something bigger, grander, than myself. And I find it so enriching and rewarding to be of service to my fellow Filipinos,” said one of the volunteer nurses.
It is during these times that volunteerism shines brightly at SMDC—from rank-and-file employees up to their senior management, as well as its residents, who share the company’s goal of building happy, healthy, and thriving communities.
