Manila Water begins P 8-B bulk water supply project in Pangasinan

Manila Water Co. Inc. has commenced an P8-billion project to increase water supply in the province of Pangasinan.

In a disclosure to the stock exchange on Monday, the company said its wholly owned subsidiary, Manila Water Philippine Ventures, Inc., has finally signed the concession agreement with the provincial government of Pangasinan for the implementation of a 25-year bulk water supply project.

The funding will be used to create the infrastructure that will source water from the Agno River using the Riverbank Filtration technology.

It is projected to deliver a billed volume of 200 million liters per day by the end of the contract and is seen to cater to 1.4 million residents across 14 cities and municipalities in Pangasinan.

These are the areas of Villasis, Urdaneta, Malasiqui, Dagupan, Mangaldan, Sta. Barbara, Calasiao, Mapandan, Manaoag, San Carlos, Binmaley, Lingayen, San Jacinto and San Fabian.

The bulk water supply project began in September 2016 when Manila Water submitted an unsolicited proposal. A notice of acceptance was issued in November 2018.

Finally, in September last year, the local government awarded the deployment, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of the bulk water project to Manila Water.

For 25 years, Manila Water has been the exclusive water and used water service provider to the east zone of Metro Manila and the Rizal province, serving over 7 million customers.

Its subsidiary operates bulk water supply projects in the province of Cebu and in Tagum, Davao del Norte. It also provides water and wastewater services in Batangas, Laguna, Bulacan, Pampanga, Boracay, Iloilo and Samar, among others. INQ
