It was a major, major weekend to remember for motoring enthusiasts.
Aside from the Manila Auto Salon held in Mall of Asia’s SMX where some 130 customized cars were on display and in show competition, the Old Schooler Car Club gathered some 160 cars at the parking lot of Ortigas Home Depot where the club celebrated its 8th anniversary, while Resorts World Manila held an exhibit of about a dozen vintage and classic cars in its Newport Mall lobby. To cap off a week of autophilia, Trackhos car club, an elite car club of exotic supercars, staged its first ever Trackhos Mile, where its members blast across some 2.5 kilometers of Subic International Airport’s runway. Its wide tarmac and long stretch allows its members to test to its limit the power and speed of their high performance supercars with a good margin of safety.
Some 70 luxury sports cars made their way to Subic from dawn to late afternoon taking turns in challenging the airport tarmac in a rare gathering of exotic and collectible high-performance cars. Sponsored by German lubricant brand Liqui Moly, the event was not a highly publicized one but it was never meant to be. “It’s a place for car enthusiasts to come together to test their cars on how fast they can go while having fun at the same time. We supported this event since we know how important it is for these high-performance cars to be well lubricated to be in their top form,” said Benjie Ong of European Advance Technik, RP’s distributor for Liqui Moly.
Among the notable supercars present during the event were a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, a few Lamborghinis, an Audi R8, several variants of 911 Porsches, Nissan GTR’s and even a couple of Ford GT’s. Celebrity director and noted car enthusiast Sid Maderazo of 88 Storey Films even brought his award-winning film crew to capture the event on film.
