Coffee for your headache? Why not?
MANILA, Philippines –Caffeine is almost definitely the most widely known chemical stimulant in the world.
To many, a cup of coffee is synonymous to waking up in the morning or to staying awake during late hours to beat a deadline.
There are those who swear that their IQs are directly proportional to the amount of caffeine in their bloodstream. It isn’t just old wives’ tales either; caffeine is a proven neuro-stimulant, as well as a metabolic stimulant.
Caffeine naturally occurs in coffee, chocolate, coca (used to make cola) and tea. These are all consumed voraciously worldwide. It would seem that from a flavor’s standpoint, caffeine tastes pretty great.
Recent findings show that caffeine has another surprising benefit: It is a mild natural analgesic; what’s more, when combined with some other analgesics, caffeine significantly enhances the pain-relieving efficacy of those analgesics, particularly with common analgesics such as Paracetamol and Aspirin.

In the Philippines only Saridon (Paracetamol, Propyphenazone and Caffeine), a headache tablet manufactured by Bayer, contains caffeine.
Saridon, an over-the-counter pain medication from Bayer Philippines, is now available in Metro Manila. Previously, the brand was available only in the Visayas and Mindanao, where it has been one of the best-selling headache medications available for the last several years.
The decision to offer the product in Manila comes just after the product was re-introduced in the Visayas and Mindanao with a new formulation.
Reformulated Saridon thus becomes the first analgesic offered by Bayer in Manila, as well as the first combination ingredient analgesic available in the Philippines to be composed of three active ingredients.
Saridon was introduced worldwide in 1984. Since then it has undergone many reformulations, each progressively more efficacious.
The latest formulation of Saridon is now available in leading drugstores all over Metro Manila for only P4.50 (SRP).
A breakthrough in headache relief from Bayer
Saridon from Bayer is a much-needed step forward in headache management.
Saridon features a unique combination of mild analgesics, which work in synergy to deliver fast, effective and affordable pain relief like never before.
The secret to Saridon’s efficacy lies in the way Saridon’s three active ingredients work together. Saridon’s main ingredient is Paracetamol, still universally regarded the safest pain medication in the market. It is combined with Propyphenazone (PPZ), a mild but very fast-acting analgesic, and a small portion of Caffeine, the best-known stimulant in the world and also a mild analgesic.
The resulting pain-relieving action is greater than the sum of the parts.
Saridon is faster-acting than Propyphenazone alone, longer-lasting than Paracetamol alone. It delivers more relief than any single ingredient Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, or combined Paracetamol and Ibuprofen pain relievers; this, despite the fact that it contains only 250mg of Paracetamol, 150 mg of PPZ and 50 mg of caffeine (equivalent to the caffeine in a half cup of coffee.)
